Chiesa dell’Immacolata

MUNICIPALITY: Atrani
NAME: Church of the Immaculate Conception
LOCATION: Piazza Umberto I

DESCRIPTION: This is a small chapel, difficult to identify from the outside because it is inserted between the surrounding houses and the Church of the Holy Savior. This small church, which local religious sentiment has dedicated to the Mother of the Savior, is a single hall, with a cross-vaulted roof and a slightly trefoiled window on the right side; the altar, made of marble, is decorated with a small canvas reproducing the Virgin and Child and adorned with a crown and pearl necklace, superimposed.
The sacristy was carved out of a small compartment behind the altar.
It has been and continues to be home to a congregation.

SEE, VISIT, FIND: The church is open occasionally, every Thursday from morning until afternoon and for the novenas of the Immaculate Conception and Christmas. It is still possible to ask to visit by contacting the parish priest or the traffic police.
FRUITION DATA: Many tourists approach the gate to visit it.
OPPORTUNITIES: It would be possible to enhance this very small church by providing more accurate information supports and directions, also because it is unknown to most. A tour route dedicated to Atrani’s monumental assets would provide an appropriate context, giving it greater visibility.
